TCS Research Scholars program
TCS announces new doctorate funding program to drive quality academic research
Hyderabad, India – November 27, 2009 — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), a leading global IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm, today announced a new program to encourage quality academic research and thereby increase the available faculty talent pool in India.The company will fund 200 doctoral candidates over a period of five years to take up Phd programs in reputable academic institutions across the country. The “TCS Research Fellows” will pursue original research in various aspects of computer science. 40 doctoral or Phd candidates will be chosen as TCS Research Scholars every year from a number of reputable academic institutes through a process of selection conducted by TCS and the academic institutes.
Announcing the TCS Research Scholar Program on the sidelines of Sangam, TCS’ annual academic conclave, N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD said, “At a time, when the introduction of new technologies are changing business models rapidly, there is an urgent need for more focused research to stay ahead of the learning curve. The TCS Research Scholars program will help enlarge the R&D agenda and encourage exploration of new ideas by funding candidates in doctorate programs”.
“TCS works with our academic partners through the year to examine ways of deepening our relationship. The TCS Research Scholars Program is a new initiative to take this engagement with academia to the next level, said Ajoy Mukherjee, Head Global HR. “By inducting 200 new Phd scholars into the academic eco-system over a period of five years, this initiative will also significantly enhance the pipeline of high quality faculty for colleges, apart from generating new ideas and honing research talent in the country.”
The new program will supplement existing TCS programs like the Academic Interface Program, which is a holistic initiative to enhance the quality of the emerging workforce across the globe by supporting students, faculty, institutes and government. The program engaged with 499 academic institutes in India and over 85 overseas during FY2009, conducting over 130 faculty development programs benefiting over 4,000 instructors and 400 workshops for over 52,000 students globally. Over 1300 students benefited from TCS internships and awards.

Apple Unveils New iMac With 21.5 and 27-inch Displays

CUPERTINO, California—October 20, 2009—Apple® today unveiled an all new iMac® line featuring brilliant LED-backlit 21.5 and 27-inch widescreen displays in a new edge-to-edge glass design and seamless all aluminum enclosure. The new iMac line, starting at $1,199, is the fastest ever with Intel Core 2 Duo processors starting at 3.06 GHz, and Core i5 and i7 quad-core processors for up to twice the performance.* Every new iMac ships with a wireless keyboard and the all new wireless Magic Mouse, the world’s first mouse with Multi-Touch™ technology pioneered by Apple on the iPhone®, iPod touch® and Mac® notebook trackpad.“The iMac is widely praised as the best desktop computer in the world and today we are making it even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With brilliant LED displays and the revolutionary Magic Mouse, the new iMac delivers an amazing desktop experience that we think customers will love.”
The new iMac features stunning LED-backlit displays with a 16:9 aspect ratio, ideal for watching high definition movies and TV shows from iTunes®, or editing and watching your own videos or photos using iLife®. The new 21.5-inch iMac features a high resolution 1920-by-1080 pixel display. The 27-inch iMac features a beautiful 2560-by-1440 pixel display that offers 60 percent more pixels than the previous 24-inch model. Both 21.5 and 27-inch displays use IPS technology to deliver consistent color across an ultra wide 178 degree viewing angle.
The iMac comes standard with a wireless keyboard and the new Magic Mouse featuring Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch technology. Instead of needing mechanical buttons, scroll wheels or scroll balls, the entire top of the Magic Mouse is a seamless Multi-Touch surface. Using intuitive gestures, a user can easily scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. The Magic Mouse can be configured as either a single button or two button mouse, according to the user’s preference. The wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse work seamlessly with the iMac’s built-in Bluetooth capabilities to provide a clean, cable-free desk top.
The iMac features improved graphics across the line with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics or ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics in the 21.5-inch model, and ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics or ATI Radeon HD 4850 discrete graphics in the 27-inch model. The new iMac line now also features 4GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 memory and capacity up to 16GB across four SO-DIMM slots. Apple today also announced that the Mac mini, the world’s most energy efficient desktop,** is now faster, offers more storage and comes standard with double the memory. Starting at $599, the entry level Mac mini features a faster 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, a 160GB hard drive, five USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics and a SuperDrive®. The $799 Mac mini features a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of memory and a larger 320GB hard drive. Puli and Varudu Producer in financial crisis

Producer and financier Singanamala Ramesh is right now producing two films with two big stars of tollywood at a time. One film is ‘Komaram Puli’ with Pawan Kalyan Directed by S.j.Surya of ‘Kushi’ fame and the other is ‘Varudu’ with Mahesh Babu directed by Ace director Trivikram Srinivas under sri kanakaratna movies banner.
‘Komaram Puli’ shooting has been delayed due to elections, as Pawan Kalyan is the star campaigner for PRP who campaigned extensively all over the state. Though Ramesh announced Mahesh Babu’s film feu months ago, it has started its shooting few weeks before. The news that is making rounds in the film nagar is that Singanamala Ramesh has been facing financial crisis.As both these films are huge budget films and is estimated to cost not less than Rs.60 Crores. The delay in the shooting of these films is a huge burden on the producer which led to financial crisis.

Google Go Programming Language Released
Google has released an experimental language called Go Programming language as an open source software.
The new Go programming language uses web friendly attributes of scripting languages like Python and performance attributes of languages like C++. So it can be used to build web servers and databases.
This move is an attempt by the internet giant to gain a stronghold in Information Technology. Earlier, Google had announced the creation of the Android OS for the mobiles and Google Chrome OS for the PC browsers.
According to the sources, the new Go programming language was started much before with the active guidance from Ken Thompson, Robert Thompson and Rob Pike. Robert Thompson was the key man in the development of Java HotSpot compiler, whereas the others were associated with the development of the Unix operating system.
Google has clarified that the new programming language will be used for building web servers and databases. It is also optimized for multi-processing and multi-core-based systems.
It is expected that the new language will improve the handling of dependencies between reusable software components like the libraries.
A Google blog post said, "Here at Google, we believe programming should be fast, productive, and most importantly, fun. That's why we'rhttp://www.india-server.com/news/google-go-programming-language-released-15880.htmle excited to open source an experimental new language called Go."
"Typical builds feel instantaneous; even large binaries compile in just a few seconds. And the compiled code runs close to the speed of C. Go lets you move fast," the blog post added.

After a daylong rollercoaster drama during which Windows 7 Beta gave us a false-alarm release followed by a server smackdown, Microsoft is finally handing out honest to goodness product keys for the beta. A couple weeks ago, the Google Docs team launched a multi-file uploader to make it much easier for you to put files into the cloud. Today we're launching a new feature to make it much easier to get your content out: "Convert, Zip and Download."Select one or more files and then click on "Export" from the "More Actions" menu. Next, pick the format (e.g. PDF, Microsoft Word, etc) you want for your exported files. Finally, click "Continue" and we'll give you a nice zip file to download that has all your content. For now, you can "export" up to 500 MB of content in a single zip file, which is over 20,000 typical files. Sometimes it takes us a few minutes to export really large amounts of files, so instead of making you wait, we added an "Email when ready" option. We'll send you a link when the zip file is ready.
